Bodmer was a Swiss engineer who was marketing hi artillery to different European countries during the Napoleonic Wars. England was the only country that did not insist that he enlist in the military so he settled in Manchester which was a center of engine building. It is doubtful that this unusual engine was ever built but it was patented which could prove just as valuable to the designer.
