Spaulding Grist Mill Project
The Townsend Mass Historical society contacted me to have a model built of a local Grist Mill. The Spaulding Grist Mill had suffered from years of seasonal flooding and parts of the building were compromised. This model gives visitors and school groups an opportunity to see the mechanical aspects of the mill without having to adventure in to dangerous conditions. This was achieved with exacting detail with the one exemption of the water power being replaced by a hand crank. Careful measurement as well as survey drawings allowed me to represent not only the belts pulleys and leather driven machinery but also the copying of the main columns, beams , rafters and studs. The entire model can be dismantled by knocking out the wood pegs that hold the tennons in the mortices.
